Let's go back in time and enjoy the play from those old days in the Korean Folk Village.
The Korean Folk Village, a traditional culture theme park located in Yongin City of Gyeonggi Province, is currently holding a festival that enables visitors to travel back in time and relive Korean school days of past decades. The festival runs from November 20 of the current year to March 20, 2022. It has been 10 years since the first Retro Festival was held by the Korean Folk Village. Titled ‘The Play from Those Old Days,’ the event was organized to evoke feelings of nostalgia among visitors through the recreation of a variety of games from the 1990s.
The festival program includes a range of events in which visitors can participate:
1. A large-scale ‘Mugungwa Kkoci Pieotseumnida” (Red Light, Green Light) Event takes place at the playground under the title “Come to the Playground.” The game runs twice daily – from 12:00PM to 12:50PM and from 3:00PM to 3:50PM – and is free of charge.
2. The Dalgona Challenge Event – with a total of 4 difficulty levels – takes place at the school store with a participation fee KRW 3,000. The organizers have also prepared special gifts for those who successfully pass levels 3 and 4.
3. The “What Are You Doing in Class?” Event calls upon participants to secretly perform different tasks during class while avoiding detection by the teacher. These tasks include eating snacks, listening to music, and reading comic books.
4. The school canteen and snack bar are amply supplied with nostalgic foods loved by those who came of age in Korea during the 80s and 90s. The canteen serves a traditional Korean lunch box from those times, as well as sweet and sour rice cake skewers accompanied by a warm fish cake soup that will warm you up on a cold day.
5. Visitors can also take graduation pictures while wearing various accessories available at the lecture hall. Photos taken can be printed on the spot and compiled into a graduation album full of memories with school friends.
