If you're looking for an indoor place in Gyeonggi Province to visit during this winter break, especially with a curious child, look no further! A perfect spot awaits you in Yangpyeong City.

Yangpyeong Insect Museum (양평 곤충박물관)
The Yangpyeong Insect Museum collects, studies, and exhibits insect specimens, offering a variety of educational programs to help the public understand and learn about insects. It's particularly popular as an experiential outing for children, especially those in elementary school and younger, to learn about insect ecosystems!
There's currently a free admission event, making it a great place to visit on the weekend with your child. 😊
✔ Free Admission Period at the Insect Museum: December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024

The Yangpyeong Insect Museum features permanent exhibitions like the Yangpyeong City’s Insect Exhibition Room, Domestic and Foreign Insect Exhibition Rooms, and a Live Insect Experience Room. There are also special exhibition rooms, video education rooms, photo zones, and storage rooms.

The first exhibition room , encountered upon entering via the second floor, displays over 1,500 specimens of about 500 species of insects that can all be found in Yangpyeong City.
You'll see a variety of insects, including butterflies, moths, spiders, bees, praying mantises, and more. Beetles and stag beetles, which are a highlight of any insect museum, are surprisingly diverse. There's even a corner for solving quizzes for some fun learning!
Heading downstairs to the second exhibition room, you can learn about insects in general, observe endangered species and national treasures, and discover insects from foreign countries. From grasshoppers and praying mantises to stag beetles, rhinoceros beetles, and tarantulas, there's an array of real insects, larvae, and numerous attractions.

Further inside, you'll find everything from silkworms to ancient insect fossils, and hard-to-see specimens preserved for display. Guinness World Record insects, the largest insects in the world, specimens by country and region, and endangered species are all here, offering a visually enjoyable experience.

The entire museum can be comfortably toured in about an hour. If you're looking for a warm and educational place to create memories with your child during Korea's cold winter, we recommend the Yangpyeong Insect Museum! 😊
