On April 24, 2024, Liaoning Province Party Secretary Hao Peng visited Gyeonggi Province to affirm a renewed commitment to cooperation between Gyeonggi and Liaoning. The focus of this visit was the strengthening of practical cooperation in key areas.
Last October, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim met with Secretary Hao Peng in Liaoning Province to discuss strategies for cooperation between the two regions. The April 24 meeting was the second between the two officials.
Here are details of the agreement signed during this recent meeting:
The “Gyeonggi-Liaoning Exchange and Cooperation Agreement” encompasses various sectors:
1. Improving business environments, expanding investment, and enhancing corporate cooperation.
2. Enhancing institutional collaboration in industries such as manufacturing, science and technology innovation, and modern agriculture.
3. Expanding cultural, sports, tourism, and educational exchanges.
Following the signing of the agreement, a pact on agricultural science and technology exchanges and a university exchange agreement were also concluded.
The agricultural science and technology exchange agreement aims to expand joint research and personnel exchanges in crop cultivation and pest control techniques. Meanwhile, the university exchange agreement seeks to promote exchanges of students and faculty, as well as performances and academic collaborations, between the two universities.
A dinner following the agreement signing was attended by Liaoning Province Party Secretary Hao Peng and the Liaoning delegation, the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, the Chair and Vice Chair of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, Gyeonggi business representatives, and notable figures from cultural and academic sectors, all aiming to foster cooperation.
Yeom Jong-hyun, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, expressed his optimism at the dinner, stating, "Exchanges and cooperation between our regional governments and councils will be a driving force for mutual development and the happiness of our peoples in Korea and China."
Since establishing a sisterhood relationship with Liaoning Province in 1993, a year after diplomatic relations were established between Korea and China, Gyeonggi Province has actively participated in various exchange activities. These include the establishment of the Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC) in Shenyang, hosting tourism exchange meetings, and the mutual dispatch of exchange officials.
This year, Gyeonggi Province plans to host several events to enhance exchanges and cooperation. These include an invitational trip for government and tourism industry representatives to revitalize tourism, a youth sports exchange tournament with participants from Gyeonggi Province, Liaoning Province, and Kanagawa Prefecture, and an exhibition of artifacts from the Liaoning Province Museum. We invite everyone to take a keen interest in these initiatives.
We look forward to further cooperation and shared prosperity between Gyeonggi Province and Liaoning Province!
