Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province has served as a mecca of ceramics in Korea since the Joseon Dynasty. It was the first city in Korea to be designated as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Crafts & Folk Arts, and a total of 23 artisans are active here, including nationally and locally certified ceramic masters. There are a total of 500 ceramic workshops in Icheon actively engaged in creative activities.
Ye’s Park : a town of ceramic artisanship
Ye’s Park is the largest town of its kind in Korea with about 350 workshops covering an area of approximately 400,000 square meters. Due to its vast size, it’s almost impossible to explore all of it in one day, let alone on foot. We recommend that you drive around or use the personal mobility device of your choice, be it a bicycle or scooter!This town is home to about 500 artisans who are pursuing their creative activities. There is a building that has exhibition halls, residences and workshops which encompass ceramics and various other fields, such as glass, antique furniture, woodwork and sculpture. Each workshop has an exhibition hall and an atelier where you can meet artists, experience their artisanship and even purchase your favorite works.
In heart of the town is a tourist information center operated by Icheon where you can receive information about the various workshops and more. Since you’re most likely to be visiting all day, there is even a convenience store and a cafe street nearby. Spend some time relaxing at photogenic cafes and delicious restaurants during your visit. Ijin Sanghoe : unique bakeries and cafes for the enjoyment of ceramics
There is a cultural complex located about 10 minutes from Ye’s Park that features the bakery cafe Ijin Sanghoe and the furniture gallery The Ijin as well as India House, Napoli Garden, and more.
Maison de Petit Four Bakery offers about 20 types of bread from the morning hours, and replenishes its offerings with new types of bread throughout the day, from rice marron bread and strawberry tarts to cheese bacon croque monsieurs and rouge cakes.
There are unique and popular menu items presenting the motifs of Icheon—rice and ceramics—including a bowl of rice topped with vanilla cream on castella, Icheon pumpkin-charred bread made in the shape of a pumpkin, and rice marron bread. All these treats are served on Icheon-made porcelain plates.
