The Davos Forum, where global business and political leaders convened to discuss pressing global issues, successfully concluded. This forum was a significant gathering where world economic leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on key economic issues, placing Gyeonggi Province at the heart of these influential dialogues.

Let's delve into what happened at this year's Davos Forum!
Participation in the Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL)

On January 18, 2024, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim attended the IGWEL at the Davos Congress Center. This exclusive high-level meeting is reserved for top global figures such as the IMF Managing Director, finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives of international organizations. Notably, Governor Kim was the only Korean and the only local government leader worldwide invited to the IGWEL.

The meeting's focus was on 'Preventing Economic Fracture,' fostering discussion on the need for an inclusive and integrated recovery of the global market amidst a fragile and uncertain world economy. The specifics of the meeting were held confidential.

Moderating the 'Gyeonggi and the Innovators' Special Session

Governor Kim also moderated the 'Gyeonggi and the Innovators' special session. He highlighted Gyeonggi Province as the economic and advanced industrial hub of South Korea and emphasized efforts to transform it into a startup paradise.
He outlined three directions for Gyeonggi's startup policy: clustering, networking, and globalization. In particular, he mentioned the 'Pangyo+20 Project,' which is centered on Pangyo Techno Valley and aims to create entrepreneurial spaces and develop various exchange and cooperation programs.

Representatives of global startups, including Noom, Einride, and Ada Health, showed keen interest in collaborating with Gyeonggi Province, expressing positive views on business prospects with Korea, especially Gyeonggi Province.

Governor Kim underscored Gyeonggi Province as an ideal location for startups and investments and revealed plans to host a major international investment fair for domestic and international startups and investors.

On January 17, Governor Kim participated in two sessions at the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum).

The first session was 'Accelerating Net Zero: Manufacturing Innovation Strategy,' and the second was 'Accelerating Responsible Renewable Energy.'
Both sessions, held under the Chatham House Rule, disclosed only the discussion content, keeping participants' identities confidential.

Governor Kim emphasized the role of local governments in an era of climate change and the need to bridge disparities among companies, people, and nations due to differing climate change responses.

On January 19, Governor Kim met with Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region of France, while visiting Switzerland and France to enhance international exchanges and attract investment.
They discussed concrete cooperation in various fields like startups, climate change, advanced industries, and youth exchanges.

Governor Kim proposed that Île-de-France startups visit Gyeonggi Province, emphasizing the potential for collaboration between the regions, particularly in startup exchanges.

This visit by Gyeonggi Province to the Davos Forum and France aimed to showcase the excellence of Gyeonggi Province and South Korea to global entrepreneurs, government officials, and heads of international organizations, creating more opportunities through investment attraction.

Gyeonggi Province is committed to expanding globally through international exchanges and cooperation with key world figures!
