Seollal is one of Korea’s biggest holidays, when families gather to share delicious food, pay respect to elders, and wish for peace and happiness in the new year.

A beloved tradition continues to this day: people start the year with a healthy bowl of tteokguk (rice cake soup), and exchange sincere bows while wishing one another good fortune.
