If you’re looking for something a bit different to enjoy in Gyeonggi Province, make sure to experience the Namsadang performance at Anseong Machum Land!
Namsadang was Korea’s first professional performing troupe, active in the late Joseon era. They traveled from markets to villages, showcasing dance, music, and acrobatics.
Its origins trace back to Cheongnyongsa Temple in Cheongnyong-ri, Seoun-myeon, Anseong. The performers who trained and worked here became known as the ‘Anseong Namsadang.’
Traveling across the country, the Namsadang troupe entertained people with traditional performances such as pungmul drumming, acrobatics, tightrope walking, mask dance, and puppet plays—sharing joy and excitement with everyday folk. It’s a vibrant show filled with Korea’s unique rhythm and spirit.
What was once the traditional art of ‘wandering performers’ has now become a symbol of Korean folk culture. Today, you can experience these captivating performances year-round at the Anseong Namsadang Performance Theater.
From the powerful beats of traditional Korean instruments to acrobatic stunts reminiscent of a circus and the troupe’s dynamic choreography, you’ll soon find yourself immersed in the colors, rhythms, and energy unfolding right before your eyes.
It’s a rare chance to fully enjoy the distinctive charm of traditional Korean performing arts, something you won’t easily find in modern shows!
After the performance, you can even participate in hands-on programs where you learn signature Namsadang skills such as tightrope walking or plate spinning. How about a fun weekend trip to lively Gyeonggi Province?
