On January 30, 2024, Gyeonggi Province welcomed a delegation from the Aichi Prefectural Assembly of Japan at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office for a crucial meeting aimed at strengthening the friendship and cooperative relationship between Gyeonggi Province and Aichi Prefecture. The discussions were particularly focused on enhancing cooperation in the manufacturing sector and youth exchanges to promote interactions between the two regions.
The delegation, composed of six members from the Liberal Democratic Party, visited as part of the preparations for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The delegation conveyed their anticipation for expanded friendship and exchange with Gyeonggi Province through a letter from the Governor of Aichi Prefecture.
Governor Dong Yeon Kim expressed Gyeonggi Province’s hopes for strengthened cooperation through this meeting, stating, "I believe there are many areas where Gyeonggi Province and Aichi Prefecture can collaborate, especially in manufacturing and industry sectors. Youth exchange is a critical area we should focus on. Once Aichi Prefecture identifies suitable partners, our officials will proceed with the discussions."
Representing the Aichi Prefectural Assembly, Mr. Toshinao Takakuwa remarked, "Aichi Prefecture is the heart of Japan's manufacturing industry, home to Toyota's headquarters. We believe Japan has much to learn from Korea's IT industry and look forward to welcoming Korean tourists to Ghibli Park opening in March. Youth exchange is something we had already intended to request, and we hope to facilitate exchanges with Gyeonggi Province."
Hideaki Omura, Governor of Aichi Prefecture, conveyed through a letter delivered by the delegation, "We look forward to more active exchanges between Aichi Prefecture and Gyeonggi Province, and between Aichi Prefecture and Korea. We hope this visit will further deepen mutual understanding and strengthen the friendly relations between our regions."
