On February 27, Gyeonggi Province had the pleasure of receiving His Excellency Eric Teo, the Ambassador of Singapore to the Republic of Korea, to discuss collaboration opportunities between Gyeonggi Province and Singapore in various areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), startup initiatives, and youth exchanges.
Following Gyeonggi Province's participation in the Davos Forum in Switzerland last January, efforts have been made to strengthen the relationship with Singapore. During the Davos Forum, there were discussions with the Honorable Josephine Teo, Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information, expressing the intention to collaborate in the fields of AI and data. Additionally, a meeting with His Excellency Tanman Shanmugaratnam, the President of Singapore, took place to seek cooperation in youth exchanges.
On February 6, Augustin Lee, Second Permanent Secretary of the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) in Singapore, visited Gyeonggi Province.
Singapore announced its national AI strategy in 2019 and is currently pursuing the enhancement of AI capabilities as a national priority through the establishment of NAIS 2.0.
Given that Gyeonggi Province and Singapore are home to a majority of innovative companies in the fields of AI and data, this meeting holds significant meaning.
With this meeting as a starting point, it is hoped that Gyeonggi Province and Singapore will continue to expand opportunities for exchange and collaboration across various sectors, including the economy, technology, and human interactions.
