🚨Support Center for Foreign Residents Affected by Fire: ‘119 Help Call’ is Now Operating🚨
Have you ever felt lost when seeking information on disaster prevention and recovery from fire? Well, worry no more.
Since December 24, 2023, the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire & Disaster Headquarters has been operating the '119 Help Call' support center to aid foreign residents affected by fires.
The 119 Help Call center springs into action when a fire station reports a fire involving foreigners. 😊 It aims to expedite recovery activities from disasters and damage, providing physical and psychological recovery support, and utilizing the interpretation services of multilingual volunteers.
Let's look at the details.
Operated by the Fire Investigation Team of the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire & Disaster Headquarters, '119 Help Call' is a center that assists foreigners with expedited recovery activities. It coordinates physical and psychological recovery support through partnerships with local governments and the Red Cross and offers interpretation services through multilingual volunteer fire brigades.
Gyeonggi Province is home to a third of the registered foreigners in Korea, giving it the heaviest concentration of foreign communities in the country.
The Gyeonggi Fire Service established this support center, recognizing that many foreigners residing in the province face language barriers when attempting to access information on disaster prevention and recovery, and that those affected by fires rely on their own communities for relief goods and interpretation support.
Cho Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire & Disaster Headquarters, stated, "We will enhance publicity for '119 Help Call' and spare no effort in providing various forms of support, including remodeling the homes of foreigners affected by fire, in cooperation with businesses… We aim to implement policies to ensure foreigners are neither discriminated against nor marginalized in disasters and their aftermath."
Gyeonggi Province is committed to the continued development of policies to ensure foreigners are not discriminated against or left out.
