The third story of Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim’s overseas mission begins with an agreement to pursue the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program so as to expand opportunities for Gyeonggi youths in Buffalo, New York. Following Michigan, this is the second MOU agreement signed during this overseas mission. Let's take a look at the details of the agreement.
State University of New York at Buffalo Signs Agreement with Gyeonggi Province on Youth Ladder Program
Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim, who visited the United States to expand youth opportunities, has agreed with the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) to jointly promote the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program, which provides overseas training opportunities for Gyeonggi youths. This follows a similar agreement made with the University of Michigan. As a result, more than 80 Gyeonggi youths will be able to participate in overseas training at two famous American universities, the University of Michigan and SUNY Buffalo, this year.
On the morning of April 12 (local time), Governor Kim signed the MOU between Gyeonggi Province and SUNY Buffalo on the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program at the SUNY Global Center in New York with Dr. Satish K. Tripathi, President of SUNY Buffalo.
Of particular note, Dr. John B. King Jr., who served as the U.S. Secretary of Education during the Obama administration and currently manages all 64 colleges under SUNY, unexpectedly visited the agreement ceremony venue and added to the significance of the event. Governor Kim and Chancellor King discussed their expectations and the importance of the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program.
According to the agreement, SUNY Buffalo will operate an overseas training program in which Gyeonggi youths will participate through four weeks of classes that include language study, cultural experiences, corporate visits, and team projects. The agreement calls for the dispatch of more than 50 Gyeonggi youths to SUNY Buffalo each year until 2025. Sources say that the SUNY Buffalo is paying considerable attention to this initiative as it is the first time they are conducting such a training program for overseas youths.
Governor Kim said, "I am pleased to send Gyeonggi youths to prestigious universities in the United States. Starting this year, I will ensure that more young people can challenge themselves to realize good opportunities in the coming year."
SUNY Buffalo President Satish K. Tripathi said, "The values pursued by the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program, such as diversity, equality, and the right to receive a good education, are important to the State University of New York at Buffalo, so this program is meaningful."
