October 8 marks the 100th day since the new Gyeonggi provincial administration, elected through the 8th popular local elections of Korea, was launched under the slogan of "Center of Change, Gyeonggi of Opportunity."
The newly elected provincial administration cited "opportunities" as a means by which to address South Korean issues – such as social polarization, stagnant growth, and low birth rates – and is endeavoring to resolve those issues by providing "more, better and greater opportunities" to provincial residents.
Now the Gyeonggi Province of opportunity!
Amid continued efforts to make Gyeonggi Province an "opportunity capital," a provincial administration brand has been developed that conveys the values of expressed in "Center of Change, Gyeonggi of Opportunity," the slogan of the provincial administration.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government supplemented the new brand’s basic signature (symbol) announced by the newly elected governor's transition committee on June 27, developing a total of forty manuals including design guidelines for applied signatures, slogan characters, administrative documents, and more.

The logotype presents boldness in contrast with a soft outline, denoting the responsible attitude of Gyeonggi Province as the heart of Korea and the center of change for a better future. The colors used – turquoise, blue, and light green – symbolize Gyeonggi Province's vision of ‘balance and harmony,’ ‘stability and hope,’ and ‘happiness and peace,’ respectively.
Gyeonggi Province also developed its “Bonggongyi” character along with the brand. This character visually embodies the “pleasant rebellion” unique to Gyeonggi Province’s newly elected administration, which aims to break away from a rigid slogan format and instead seeks to communicate with the public via a more friendly and flexible visage.
The name of the character was derived by arranging the consonants in the Korean words for “change” and “opportunity” vertically. Additionally, there is a dictionary definition of Bonggong that refers to one who works diligently in public office for the country and society. This is also the subject of the third volume of Mokminsimseo (Article 6 of Bonggong) by Jeong Yak-yong, a practical scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government plans to use the slogan to realize a people-centered administration by holding a brand application contest and social media events, as well as in its public interactions so as to convey the values of the newly elected administration in the daily lives of provincial residents.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s official characters can be seen in detail on the slogan website (https://www.gg.go.kr/contents/contents.do?ciIdx=1503&menuId=1826 – Korean only). An accompanying 10-second-long jingle and 1-minute-long song were also prepared in two versions with male and female vocals.
The newly elected administration of Gyeonggi Province will strive to realize many cases of active administration and innovation that put provincial residents first while also actively promoting the new brand and slogan so that provincial residents can easily embrace them.
