Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services Seeks Participants for ‘Cactus and Succulent Plant Drawing/Painting Competition’
With more time spent at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in home interiors. The concept of ‘Planterior,’ which incorporates both health and interiors, is gaining particular attention.
The term ‘planterior’ is a portmanteau of ‘plant’ and ‘interior.’ It is a new term that was created during the COVID-19 pandemic in reference to an interior style that pursues air purification and psychological stability through interior decoration using green plants.
The Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (GARES) has announced that it will be hosting the ‘18th Cactus Festival’ to reflect the planterior trend.
This year’s Cactus Festival and the ‘Cactus and Succulent Plant Drawing/Painting Competition’ will be held in the first-floor lobby at the east gate of Seoul COEX from October 11 to 17. The theme for this drawing/painting competition is ‘Restart! Excitement of Cacti and Succulent Plants’ and entries will be accepted from July 18 until August 18 as follows.
Qualification:Any resident with an interest in cacti and succulent plants
Subject:Free drawing/painting (use desired materials freely including paints, color pencils, pencils, etc.)
Artwork regulations and size:1 work per person / Quarto paper
Submission:Download the application from the official GARES website https://nongup.gg.go.kr) and submit the completed application and work file (jpg file) via email (housezone@gg.go.kr)
Submitted artworks will undergo an initial review. Those contestants who qualify for the second review round will be notified by phone. Once selected for the second round, contestants need to provide their birthday, name, and contact information via email by September 8.
The second review round will see the selection of prize-winning artworks through the joint evaluation of all simultaneously displayed artworks by five appointed judges. The final results will be officially announced on the GARES website with individual notifications being made on September 22.
Nine winners will receive award certificates from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, the President of the Korea Floriculture Agricultural Cooperative, and the President of Cactus Research Society along with respective grants at the award ceremony to be held on October 11.
Also, all submitted artworks that pass the first and second rounds will be displayed at the 18th Cactus Festival event hall.
For more details regarding this event, visit the official GARES website or contact the GARES Cactus and Succulent Plant Research Institute (+82-31-8008-9541).
The Cactus Festival, where one can encounter beautiful cacti and succulent plants, was first held in 2004 and will be celebrating its 18th event this year. Aside from the ‘Cactus and Succulent Plant Drawing/Painting Competition,’ there will also be exhibits featuring new and rare cacti and succulent plants, exotic photo zones, succulent plant crafting experiences, and other events.
(How about enjoying a time of comfort, hope, and healing with cacti and succulent plants that feature both longevity and unique appeal at the 18th Cactus Festival?)
