Gyeonggi Province is promoting a child expense support project for young parents (age 24 or less).
A TV program portraying the reality and lives of young parents has been a topic of discussion lately in Korea. Despite being an age at which it is difficult to gain employment, the young parents featured in the show worked diligently to maintain their family, thus capturing the attention of the viewers.
Support measures for young parents are desperately
needed. Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province has announced that it will launch the ‘Child
Expense Support Pilot Project for Young Parents’ so as to help such households with
child-rearing expenses.
@Gyeonggi Province |
According to a survey conducted by the province, there are 828 children being raised by young parents; the province intends to increase the support provided to couples suffering financial difficulties.
There are many projects in place for general
low-income households, but there were few support measures for young parent
households. Gyeonggi Province has decided to take this opportunity to actively assist
these families who fall in welfare blind spots so as to improve the welfare of
provincial residents.
The receipt of applications for child expense support began
on July 1 with Gyeonggi Province residents who are young parents below
the 60th percentile of median income being eligible to apply. For
example, a one-child/three-person household with a monthly income below KRW
2,516,821 would meet the income requirements.
In terms of age requirements, parents must be 24 years
of age or younger (born after June 1, 1997). Those interested can visit their
local administrative welfare centers with relevant documents to apply.

Applicants are required to submit a copies of their resident registration, family relations certificate/marriage certificate, certificate of earned income (both parents), and bankbook.
Once accepted, beneficiaries will receive government support of KRW 200,000 per month for each child for up to six months.
Recipients of welfare
benefits pursuant to the ‘Single-Parent Family Support Act’ are ineligible; those
seeking to apply are advised to check if they are covered by this act.
For more details on application
documents and support conditions, please contact your local administrative
welfare center, city/county departments related to young parent welfare, or
