Experience the electronics industry with the Samsung Innovation Museum

There are numerous conglomerates in Korea. After the Korean War, Korea’s dramatic growth

from being one of the poorest nations to one of the world’s top ten economic powers was

made possible largely due to its representative and internationally renowned conglomerates including Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and more.

Samsung, part of the top-tier group among Korean conglomerates, is closely connected to Gyeonggi Province. This is because Gyeonggi Province’s Suwon City is where Samsung Electronics, the flagship of the Samsung Group, began.

Currently, there are important research centers – such as the Information and Communication Research Center (R3), the Digital Research Center (R4), and the Mobile Research Center (R5) – for technological innovation and creation.

There is also the Samsung Innovation Museum, a repository of the electronics industry, that is situated in ‘Samsung Digital City.’

Opened in 2014, the Samsung Innovation Museum is the largest electronics industry museum in Korea and has received approximately 450,000 visitors to date.

The Samsung Innovation Museum is included among the top 20 recommended industrial tourist attractions selected by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.

Under the theme of ‘Creating New Values Through Continuous Innovation,’ the Samsung Innovation Museum not only shares innovation stories of Samsung Electronics but also presents the overall history of the electronics industry.

It is recommended that you visit the museum’s halls by descending from the 5^th floor to the 1^st floor.

“HALL 1 - Seeds of Innovation” on the 5^th floor presents the ‘Era of Inventors’ and the roots of the electronics industry. You can view innovative inventions and inventors from the 18^th century to the early 20^th century.

“HALL 2 - Core of Innovation” is situated on the 3rd floor. It presents the “Era of Corporate Innovation’ and includes a semiconductor zone, a display zone, and a mobile zone, enabling you to experience the endless innovation of corporations.

“HALL 3 - Inspiring Innovation” is found on the 2^nd floor. It presents the ‘Era of Creation’ and provides opportunities to experience the innovations of Samsung Electronics through the S/l/M Theater and Product Gallery with the company’s latest products and solutions.

The “Samsung History Hall” on the 1^st floor presents records of the challenges and innovations of Samsung Electronics, its perseverance through numerous difficulties, and its vision for future society.

2. Docent LIVE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only online tours are currently available. The ‘S/I/M Online Tour-Docent LIVE’ has been operating since last year and consists of three themes:

- Hall 1, where you can view the history of the electronics industry from the 18^th to 20^th centuries;
- Hall 2, where you can learn about the development of the semiconductor, display, and mobile IT sectors; and
- History Hall, where you can experience the philosophy and innovations of Samsung Electronics.

When you apply for the program, you can enjoy the tour for the theme you selected.

The ‘S/I/M Online Tour-Docent LIVE’ runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Anybody interested can apply for a tour through the museum’s homepage. Personal and group online tours are available in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish.

The Samsung Innovation Museum seeks to promote the value of the electronics industry and actively communicate with society by expanding its online education contents.
