Uumdo Island may have been part of the ocean in the past, but it is now a vast field that abounds with reeds. Located in Songsan-myeon of Hwaseong City, Uumdo was so named because of the never-ending sound of cows mooing in the past.
Uumdo Island will be redeveloped as part of a new urban area called Songsan Green City soon. The recording location for the BTS Spring Day music video, checking out this site before it is redeveloped is definitely recommended.

Uumdo is well known for a photography spot called Gagsidang. Gagsidang is a place to honor a woman who lost her life in the rising tide while waiting for her husband who went out to sea. It looks like a secret base hidden in a reed field. This may be because this post was built in 1979 to prevent spies from entering the Yellow Sea. The view here is excellent, especially during the sunset.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to access Uumdo by public transportation. Visitors can approach it, though, by parking near by the Hwaseong Dinoistenesaur Site and walking along the unpaved road for about an hour. On Uumdo Island, visitors can find traces of the ocean including dried shells and mudflats. Since it is sparsely populated, traces of various wild animals can also be found here. Where there are no reeds, one can find a pathway to follow.
