The 4th Industrial Revolution is a hyper-connected technology revolution – including artificial intelligence (AI) and big data – that is bringing innovative changes to national systems, local communities, and our everyday lives. In Korea, particularly, the revolution is directed at the value of 'humanity'. As we enter this new era, AI is becoming more prevalent in our surroundings. The 4th Industrial Revolution comes in various forms and shapes, including metaverse systems that use VR technologies as well as drones with industrial and military uses.Following this trend, Gyeonggi Province has established the Gyeonggi Future Technology School so as to provide education and training programs ranging from AI to big data that deal with the latest technologies.
The Gyeonggi Future Technology School provides customized curricula so as to foster future technology talents required by the public and private sectors. The school began recruiting students this past June and saw a competition rate of 3.5 to 1 for entry into its AI program.
Each participating organization will cooperate with private companies to operate a curricula that are tailored towards practical skills and to identify ways in which trainees can be successfully employed in their respective fields.
In tandem with these efforts, Gyeonggi Province is investing in the creation of regional campuses in its northern regions, which have suffered due to a lack of vocational education facilities. These regional campuses are located in the cities of Goyang (northwest), Uijeongbu (north), and Guri (northeast).

The Goyang Campus is located in an area with a population of 1 million, and 30 individuals selected for AI training have already received full non-contact education through the campus. Concurrently, the Uijeongbu Campus operates a training course for big data analysis, while the Guri Campus, which features excellent access to IT companies, has recruited trainees for a cloud-based JAVA development training course. Campuses in these regions operate in both contact and non-contact formats in accordance with pandemic restrictions.
The training courses are provided free of charge, and training allowances are granted to those trainees who achieve an attendance of more than 80%. In addition, trainees who excel receive support in securing employment.
