Gyeonggi-do’s Support for People with Pets

With approximately ten million pets in Korea today, Gyeonggi-do has taken creative measures to assure comfortable trails for pet owners and others.

Recently, a public restroom for dogs was installed in one of the large parks in Suwon City. Inside a pillar, there is an environmentally friendly purification device that utilizes activated carbon, sand, and gravel to process dog urine. The purpose of this amenity is to elevate pet etiquette by providing a designated space for such activities and spreading a culture of responsible pet walking.

Pets are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole

As there are more pets on trails these days, creative ideas are being explored to help everyone feel comfortable using such facilities. For example, a river walkway in Gwangmyeong City now has two levels of water fountains: one for humans and one for their pets. There are also places where public dispensers of dog waste bags have been to installed to prevent pet defecation negligence. Such dispensers can be particularly useful when pet owners lack their own waste bags.

Gyeonggi-do plans to carry out projects like these for pets this year and will apply a diverse range of ideas for the benefit of pet owners and the general public.
