Ara Canal

The word Ara comes from the chorus line arario in the Korean folk song Arirang. The Ara Canal presents a new aspect of Korea as a sea route that channels the spirit of the Korean people and flows through the Han River to the Yellow Sea, connecting Seoul, Gimpo, and Incheon.

Arabat Canal’s Marine Leisure Festival

Gyeonggi Province (Gyeonggi-do) has been hosting the Ara Culture Festival since 2013 to promote leisure activities and bring local communities together. The festival has plenty of things to enjoy, including the International Dragon Boat Competition, yacht competition, and kayaking festival, as well as art festivals and sunset festivals, all with the participation of the surrounding communities.

Ara Canal Tourism and Leisure Industry

Gyeonggi Province is committed to attracting tourists and expanding related opportunities by operating marine leisure and cultural programs along the Ara Canal. The tourism and leisure industry is focusing on the development of infrastructure such as bicycle rental facilities and the Doori Campground. The province also engages in active marketing, including the operation of public relations centers, observatories, and tour programs. Through various festivals and cultural content, the province plans to cultivate the Ara Canal as a cultural attraction.
 

Ara Marina

Ara Marina is a marine leisure complex that anyone can enjoy right by the Gimpo Terminal. The marina, with a total of 194 berths, is mainly used for the sale and repair of watercraft. It enables yacht mooring and facility use (cranes, slopes, fueling stations, etc.), as well as yacht education programs and marine leisure experiences.

In the Ara Marina Yacht Class, participants can easily learn about yachts through step-by-step training for dinghy and cruisers. The education period runs from March to November every year, and is available to people of all ages, including children and adults, as well as to families and organizations.

People can also experience marine activities such as water biking and kayaking, as well as other marine vessels through tours and more. The period for these activities generally runs from April to November, but yacht tours are available year round.

Gyeonggi Marine Leisure Personnel Training Project

Gyeonggi Province is training professionals who will play pivotal roles in promoting the marine leisure industry. The training targets the unemployed as well as prospective graduates who are passionate about the marine leisure industry. Training will be conducted at Ara Marina and the Gyeonggi Techno Park, and participants will be trained in leisure vessel maintenance and many other facets of the marine leisure industry.

The diverse range of courses includes: marine engine repair, FRP hull maintenance, marine engine maintenance (outboard and onboard). Upon completion, participants receive relevant certification as well as employment support (career coaching, job placement, etc.).
