What pops into your mind during the summer? The seaside, of course! Welcoming the upcoming summer vacation season, Gyeonggi-do is hosting a week-long event to introduce various tourist and promotional programs that promote the beauty of Gyeonggi's seaside through activities such as music concerts, yachting, and surfing, as well as promotion projects undertaken together with international students. Amidst anxieties about the COVID-19 pandemic and hopes for future recovery, Gyeonggi-do reported that new types of tourism, such as short healing trips and short-distance excursions, are on the rise. Accordingly, Gyeonggi-do responded to these changing tourism trends by offering “Seaside Week in Gyeonggi.”

“Seaside Week in Gyeonggi” will run from June 14 to 20 at seaside areas in Hwaseong, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Siheung, and Gimpo, cities that are not only near Seoul but also boast natural tourist attractions such as rich marine leisure infrastructure, mudflats, and much more.
This event encompasses 3 promotional strategies and 19 projects (events, etc.) under the goal of developing the coastal areas of Gyeonggi-do as popular tourist destinations.
The first strategy is to foster greater interest in Gyeonggi's seaside and highlight its attractiveness as a tourist destination. As an initial step to achieve this, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government is launching an online campaign, titled “It's Time for Gyeonggi's Seaside,” that targets people throughout the country. It is also operating the “Travel Journalist Familiarization Tour,” “Digital Marketing for Gyeonggi's Seaside with Influencers,” and “Open Call for Popular Places on Gyeonggi's Seaside” starting in early June. In addition, it is hosting the “Mulmeong Classical Music Concert” that will tour the region, starting in Siheung on June 16 and ending in Ansan on June 20. On June 18, Gyeonggi will also host the “Academic Forum for the Tourism Vitalization of Gyeonggi's Seaside.”

The second strategy is to manage tourism products that utilize the magnificent resources of Gyeonggi’s seaside. The provincial government will operate various tourist programs, themed trips, and event products, as well as tourism products along the coastal areas of Gyeonggi-do. The province will also undertake an overseas marketing campaign with the participation of international student supporters. In addition, the provincial government is planning to operate a “mobile promotional hall” using camping vehicles, and the “Gyeonggi Maritime Safety Experience Center” where participants can experience simulated accidents and learn survival methods. During the summer season, local artists will periodically host small-scale outdoor performances with Gyeonggi's seaside as the background.

The third strategy is to promote joint projects with five seaside cities of the province and ensure the continuity of these projects. Even after the week-long event, these five cities – Hwaseong, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Siheung, and Gimpo – will continue to operate various programs including Gyeonggi seaside activity tour courses, stamp-collecting tours of major tourist attractions, walking challenges, festivals, an marine academy, art events, and much more.
Moreover, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will continue to promote diverse programs, products, content, and excellent tourism resources to attract more visitors.
