Athletic infrastructure in Korea has been widely developed so as to provide professional facilities for the training of athletes who are preparing for international events. In this regard, Gyeonggi-do is an “athletic province” since it features great infrastructure and a natural environment in the Korean capital region. Here are few examples:

Football - The Suwon Samsung Bluewings are the most famous football club in Gyeonggi-do. Samsung sponsors this club, which has developed a rivalry with FC Seoul; they engage in a competition known as the 'Super Match'.

Baseball - The KT Wiz in Suwon is the newest team in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League. Founded in 2014, they started in the secondary Future League before moving up to the KBO League in 2015. The first few years in the KBO League were challenging for the team as they ranked at the bottom of the league for three consecutive years. However, in 2019, the KT Wiz improved considerably and finished in sixth position out of the ten teams in the league.

Basketball - The Korean Basketball League (KBL) was founded in 1996 and has a total of 10 teams. The basketball season begins in October and ends in April of the following year. The Goyang Orions and the Anyang KGC are the basketball clubs located in Gyeonggi Province. Of the two teams, the Anyang KGC has gained more popularity as a sports club in Anyang City.

Volleyball - The Korean Volleyball League (V-League), founded in 2005, has a total of 7 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. Suwon is home to the KEPCO Vixtorm and the Hyundai E&C Hillstate in the men's and women's categories, respectively. They share the Suwon Gymnasium as a home ground.

Shooting Theme Park

Located on a 99,000-square-meter site of Green Mountain in Yanggam-myeon, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi’s Shooting Theme Park offers an outstanding natural environment and a trap shooting range. Additionally, with a general shooting range for use with electronic target air guns as well as a gunpowder shooting range, the theme park serves as a "Mecca of Shooting" in South Korea.

With the goal of creating a safe and pleasant shooting park, the Shooting Theme Park strives to provide leisure and comfortable training spaces for Gyeonggi residents. Also, given its proximity to the Green Mountain Forest Bath, as well as to Hwaseong City's attractions and dining amenities, the park is developing as comprehensive leisure center.

Gyeonggi Province offers scientific as well as technological support that was once only available for national team representatives to athletes in the province. The Center for Sport Science in Gyeonggi provides a diverse range of support using its highly advanced data analysis system. From physical fitness assessments to customized workout routines, the center provides comprehensive training guidelines. It also offers counseling services as well as on-site visits to strengthen the mental and physical performances of athletes.

Sportsbox

Sportsbox is a project that utilizes two vehicles equipped with 600 different types of athletic equipment in 40 categories. These vehicles visit schools and facilities in need to provide free training as well as equipment rentals. Sportsbox operates all year round, and one can make reservations by calling 031-250-0463~6.

Gyeonggi Sports Festival

Gyeonggi-do actively fosters sports events to elevate the athleticism of its residents. Since 1985, the province has hosted Gyeonggi Sports Festival, and the number of participants has increased to more than 10,000 over the past 14 years. In 2020, however, the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
