The Hyundai
Motor Company is leading the eco-friendly automobile industry through a process
that recycles iron, the main material used when manufacturing cars. Hyundai’s

2. Gwangmyeong Cultural Creation Hub
The Gwangmyeong
Cultural Creation Hub is a complex that focuses on environmentally friendly
processes. The concept of the hub is ‘Upcycle,’ a portmanteau of the words
‘upgrade’ and ‘recycle’ that refers to being one step ahead of recycling. Occupants
of the hub strive to create new works and products by adding artistic value to objects.

Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center
The Gwangmyeong
Upcycle Art Center is an art space where various exhibitions, design education seminars,
and events are held under the theme of ‘Upcycle.’ It is a popular tourist
destination in Gwangmyeong City and located right next to the famous
Gwangmyeong Cave.
The entire
space is open for the enjoyment, edification, and interaction of visitors; it
consists of creative spaces for professional writers, educational spaces where visitors
can engage in direct experiences and study, exhibition spaces for the works of artists
and other contributors, and community rooms where art communities can gather to
collaborate.

One can find an
exhibition hall of artwork, an art shop that sells upcycled products, and a
concert hall for artist collaboration or workshop events on the first floor of
the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center, while on the second floor there is a
residence room where resident artists can work. There is also a cafe located in
the Gwangmyeong Cave.

Exhibition: Upcycle from the Sea
The sea,
which accounts for 70% of the earth’s surface, is suffering due to
irresponsible waste disposal. The exhibition seeks to raise awareness about the
need to restore the sea by sublimating unintentionally discarded sea debris
into works of art.
Eco Education Center
In the Eco
Education Center, there is a collaboration room where writers and visitors can
work directly with tools to create works of art. There is also an educational
space where small groups can gather to experience and learn together. Anyone
can come up with innovative ideas for upcycling or create new products that can
help protect and heal the world we live in.

3. Gwacheon National Science Museum
The Gwacheon
National Science Museum, which is adjacent to Seoul Grand Park, is a museum
where you can enjoy exhibitions and educational programs in various fields of
science and technology. These range from astronomy to basic sciences that
encompass life and nature as well as advanced technologies.

The entrance
fee is KRW 4,000 for adults and KRW 2,000 for adolescents. It does cost a
little bit more than other science centers as this center has more facilities for
astronomy. It focuses more on experiences than exhibitions, and teaches
children the principles and methods of modern science and technology through
experiential programs and exhibitions.
Future Imagination SF Pavilion
The Future
Imagination SF Pavilion is an exhibition hall where, through imagination, you
can experience a future world and space age based on science and technology 100
years after the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is composed of five special
halls: Eggplant Hall, Corporate Experience Hall, Future Imagination Information
Hall, Korea SF History Hall, SF Stage, and Experience Hanmadang. You can
experience various immersive videos and games including VR exhibits such as
Nexon’s MapleStory-themed exhibition hall.

High Technology Hall
The High
Technology Hall exhibits advanced technologies that are used in daily life. It
consists of a total of 130 exhibits in the fields of aviation, space, energy and
materials. Here, you can try out 53 different activities such as ‘Space Travel
Theater’, ‘Gyroscope’, ‘Moon Jump’, and ‘Manned Control System’.

The Science
