Q. A semiconductor
cluster, why is it formed in a 'Gyeonggi-do' rather than in a different
province?
Most
importantly, it's where the business wants to be. Excellent
universities and research institutes are placed in Gyeonggi-do. So it's a
place where we can have excellent human resources.
Secondly,
it's infrastructure. The most
important thing in semiconductors is power, water, and roads. Gyeonggi-do
is the best place to have all of these infrastructures.
And
finally, 60 percent of the semiconductor industry is located in Gyeonggi-do.
Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and other leading global companies are based in
Gyeonggi-do.
I think the
biggest advantage is the synergy effect created by between these companies.
Q. What is the most
important part of the plan for a semiconductor cluster?
After all,
we always consider from the perspective of companies. Time is the
largest asset in the enterprise. So the most
important thing for us to do is, to make sure that we can get this project
going in time. We are
concentrating on administrative procedures and infrastructure.
