Cho Yeo-jeong the cast of Parasite 2019 was raised in Gyeonggi-do, she is now the TV commercial model for basic income.

Parasite(2019) was selected as the best picture from the Academy Awards 2020. Director Bong Joon-ho won the best director and the best scenario award too. Actress, Cho Yeo-jeong played Mrs. Park in the movie with a great sense of humor. She spent her teenagehood in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do. She now is a TV commercial for basic income in Gyeonggi-do Province.

The interview with Cho Yeo-jeong was made by the chance of Gyeonggi Province, as she has been selected as a commercial model for basic income of the province. These days she is busy but happy, having become the focus of global attention and anticipation. She spent her school days in the Bundang area of Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, and has many memories of the province.

Every day is new and a little bit different

The year 2019 must have been her busiest so far. Along with having received the award for best leading actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, a meaningful honor for any actor, the film in which she starred, “Parasite,” is being recognized as a superlative film not only in Korea but also around the world, and there has been buzz about the accrual of more awards at leading international film festivals.
“I thought about the small differences between characters preferred by the actors and the characters loved by viewers. However, the role of Yeon-gyo in “Parasite,” a character that I really loved, was the best character I have played in my life and one for which I have received a lot of love and praise from so many people. I am really, truly thankful and happy these days. At some point, I think I accepted acting as something for which I have unrequited love; although it can never be fully perfected, I always work hard and try do my best every time.”
Cho Yeo-jeong, who began her career as a model, reveals a strong presence in all drama and film genres. Perhaps it is thanks to her impeccable self-management, but one would never guess that it has been 20 years since her debut.
“It's hard to relax as a career actress. I always have to be prepared. So I try not to neglect any day that is given to me. Every time I start a day, which all people receive in the same way, I promise myself that I'll attend a dance class, go jogging today, read a book or watch a film that day. Even in the routine of daily life, keeping this promise to myself is my way of enduring the irregular life of an actress. I love my work very much because I can experience various lives through acting and I can become a better person through those roles.”

Gyeonggi-do in my memories as a young girl

Cho Yeo-jeong spent her school days in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do, which is referred to as a new city. She told me about recollections of her youth with her friends and the beautiful natural scenery that she enjoyed to the fullest.
“I moved to Bundang with my family when I was in the third year of middle school and lived there until I went to college, so I have great memories from my time in Gyeonggi-do. In my school days, I used to get together with my friends to eat spicy rice cake and I ran along the cool Tancheon Stream that passes through the town. I always had fun in Gyeonggi-do, including Bundang, because there are many parks nearby. Even in the midst of my busy daily life, it was always easy to find a place where I could relax.”
The film in which she starred, “Parasite,” features two families in a depiction of polarization. One of the most difficult issues that people hope to resolve these days pertains to equality and a sustainable life. Gyeonggi-do focuses on everyone having the same starting point without polarization or instability.

“I think that having the same starting point is very important. They say that machines will take over the roles of humans in the future, but I think this will make basic life even more difficult. I, myself, am always worried about my job. However, basic income, which is the universal welfare system being pursued by Gyeonggi-do, is impressive as it will create a fair starting point so that anyone can enjoy a decent life without anxiety. Please join me in supporting Gyeonggi-do's basic income.
